The City of Chilliwack is inviting applications from qualified candidates to fill the full-time position of Engineering Technologist.
Duties: Are you the one we're looking for?

We are seeking an experienced and well-rounded professional to take on this exciting and challenging position. Reporting to the Manager of Transportation & Drainage, you will perform a variety of technical work related to transportation and drainage. The Transportation & Drainage Engineering team works on projects ranging from policy development through to infrastructure planning, as well as managing the design and construction of complex and high-value capital projects. This position will contribute to every area of the team’s work, with activities including:

• Capital project planning, budgeting, design and construction
• Procurement and management of consulting and contracting services
• Technical and policy research, data collection and analysis
• Managing annual programs
• Providing information in writing and orally to members of the public, other departments and senior management.

The incumbent will be responsible for performing technical work involving all aspects of the management of the City's transportation and drainage systems, including traffic management issues, parking, street lighting, traffic signals, pavement maintenance, management of design and construction projects, estimating, specifications, standards and annual budgets.
Educational Requirements: As a graduate from a university or an Institute of Technology Civil Engineering Technology Program, you will bring your knowledge of civil engineering principles and apply it directly to the team’s work.
Skill Requirements: You bring demonstrated experience in the collection, evaluation and analysis of field data; strong computer and communication skills; sound knowledge of engineering and technical methods, practices and procedures related to transportation and drainage construction and maintenance; knowledge and experience in traffic modelling software and/or traffic signals is an asset; an interest in gaining knowledge and understanding of national, provincial and municipal laws, bylaws, codes and regulations governing municipal engineering works.

The desired candidate will have several years of related work experience and either:

• Registration or eligibility for registration as an Engineer in Training with APEGBC or
• Registration or eligibility for membership in ASTTBC.

This position requires a valid class 5 BC Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package for this unionized position and a great work environment.
Salary: $45.88 per hour (2024 rate)
