Job Description: The City of Abbotsford’s Waterworks division is seeking a self-motivated, dedicated and skilled individual to join their dynamic team as a full-time Utility Person (Water). In this role you will support the repair, maintenance and construction of Waterworks infrastructure. Your responsibilities will include inspecting, servicing, and repairing water meters, valves, hydrants, ground water supply facilities, reservoirs, booster stations, pressure reducing stations and related waterworks appurtenances and fittings, both in the field and at pumping facilities. You will also be involved in locating and repairing broken water mains, maintaining accurate records and inventories, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

Thorough knowledge of the principles of waterworks infrastructure repair, maintenance and construction along with considerable knowledge of waterworks distribution systems, including mechanical and control systems required to operate and maintain water pumping and storage facilities will make you an asset to the team. You will need to exercise independent judgment in performing a variety of semi-skilled and manual tasks, respond to emergencies, and maintain effective working relationships with the public, your colleagues and other contacts.
Educational Requirements: To be considered for this position you must have:

• Grade 12 or equivalent
• EOCP Water Distribution Level I Certification
• Completion of post-secondary courses in waterworks from a recognized institution
• One year of experience in waterworks
• A valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence
• Ability to obtain a BC Class 3 Driver's Licence if operationally required
Salary: This position is unionized, CUPE Local 774, and the hourly rate of pay is from $28.81 - $33.90.
