The City of Chilliwack is looking for a skilled individual to fill the full-time exempt position of Administrative Assistant in our Administration Department.
Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, you will assist in maintaining the smooth and efficient operation of the department’s functions by exercising a high degree of independent judgment and demonstrating a sound knowledge of local government practices and procedures. This position requires a clear understanding of political protocols and sensitivity to political issues. You will be working with various levels of government officials, department heads, employees, committee members, media, and the general public while assisting in providing a diverse range of administrative support.

Duties: |
In this fast-paced environment, all work must be dealt with in an expeditious and highly professional manner. The successful candidate will provide support in the preparation of documents and agreements as well as agendas and meeting minutes for a variety of meetings. You will be responsible for preparing correspondence and communication using a variety of approaches including email, Outlook Calendar, social media, phone, and letter writing amongst others. In this position, you will be responsible for arranging the details for municipal functions and meetings, booking appointments, making travel and accommodation arrangements, completing registrations for conferences, assisting with public relations and related matters as required. You will handle confidential material with discretion and integrity, and have a thorough knowledge of office procedures and practices.
You must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to tactfully and professionally deal with people. Proficient computer skills and a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office are necessary. Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to prepare reports, minutes and correspondence are necessary. |

Educational Requirements: |
In order to qualify for this position, you will have post-secondary courses/training in Public/Business Administration or Local Government Administration plus five (5) years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. |

Salary: |
$72,364 - $86,408 annually |
