Job Overview

The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a regular full-time Planner 1 to join our team of professionals in the Development Planning Department. Reporting to the Manager, Development Planning, in this unionized position you will have a broad range of development planning responsibilities reviewing urban and rural issues, and processing rezoning, subdivision, ALR and development permit applications. You will prepare reports to Council and ensure recommendations are consistent with municipal policies, bylaws and specifications. This position provides customer service, advice and interpretation on land development designs and projects.

Responsibilities

• Conducts detailed analysis of rezoning and other development applications in terms of their conformance to overall development goals, design guidelines and bylaws
• Draft, interpret, amend and consolidate bylaws to address the changing needs of the municipality and for a variety of development applications
• Maintains liaison with various internal and external contacts concerned with land development, design guidelines and general planning trends
• Answer inquiries and provides information to other departments and the public regarding planning zoning, land use or related matters
• Attend and participate in related meetings and represents the department in providing technical and professional advice on policy, goals and objectives, regulations and bylaws
• Perform related work as required


Qualifications

• University graduation in an appropriate discipline, plus a post graduate degree in Community or Regional Planning or other related area, supplemented by some professional planning experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience
• Considerable knowledge of the practices, principles, techniques and methods applicable to urban planning operations
• Considerable knowledge of the rules, regulations, policies, bylaws, objectives, and legislation governing the operations of the Planning Division
• Considerable knowledge of economics, municipal finances and sociology as applied to urban planning
• Sound knowledge of analytical and research techniques/methodology and of the current trends and developments in municipal planning
• Ability to exercise consistent judgement and creativity in dealing with a variety of planning matters
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with internal/external contacts and other related agencies
• Experience working in a municipal environment considered an asset

Required Certifications/Licenses

Candidates must have the following valid and current certifications/licenses (must be valid at the time the posting closes) and these must be attached with your application.
• BC Class 5 (full privilege) Driver’s License.
