Job Overview
The Township of Langley is recruiting for up to two regular full-time Wastewater Collection Systems Operator 1’s to join our team of professionals in the Public Works Division, Utilities Operations Department. Reporting to the Manager, Utilities Operations, in this unionized position you will perform and assist with the installation, repair and maintenance of wastewater collections and pumping equipment.
Responsibilities
Assist the operators in waterworks operations maintenance, operation and repairs that include the following:
• Perform regular inspections of municipal wastewater pumping stations and respond to pump station alarms and emergency repair calls
• Assist senior level operators with installation and repair of pumps and related equipment
• Investigate main blockages, overflowing manholes, sanitary sewer connection and related issues
• Provide direction to one or more semi-skilled employees as required
• Perform related work as required
Qualifications
• Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by technical courses related to the work plus sound experience in wastewater systems and pumping equipment repair work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
• Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools, and equipment involved in pump installation, repair, servicing, and inspection
• Working knowledge of the hazards and proper safety precautions related to wastewater collection systems
• Ability to perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in repairing, servicing, inspecting, and installing pumping equipment
• Ability to read blueprints and sketches, and prepare and maintain records
• Ability to provide direction to employees performing related manual work
• Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment used in wastewater collection systems
Required Certifications/Licenses
Candidates must have the following valid and current certifications/licenses (must be valid at the time the posting closes) and these must be attached with your application.
• BC Class 5 (full-privilege) Driver’s License or equivalent driver’s license for where you reside. You must include with your application a current Personal Driving Record (select the 5-year option if obtaining online) that has been obtained within 6 months of the closing date. To obtain a copy of your Personal Driving Record, please contact ICBC directly or the driving authority where you reside. Please note that a copy of your Driver’s License and/or Driver Factor Report will not be accepted.
