Job Description: The City of Chilliwack Recreation and Culture Department requires an Ice Person III (Casual) to assist in the performance of ice maintenance, general facility maintenance and janitorial tasks. The successful candidates will also be operating a variety of machinery and equipment such as ice conditioning machines, ice edger’s, power tools, maintaining, under instruction and supervision, the ice surface in proper condition; under general supervision of the Arenas Supervisor II or Arenas
Supervisor III assume responsibility for the Refrigeration Plant and related equipment.
Duties: In order for you to succeed in this role, you will need to have the following requirements and skills:

-Must hold a valid Refrigeration Operator Certificate to Provincial Regulations and Legislation or valid Power Engineering Classification (Fourth Class or higher) that would qualify as approved alternative certification as a Refrigeration Operator;
-Must be in possession of a valid B.C. Driver's Licence;
-Have previous training in, and a good knowledge of material, methods, procedures and equipment used in the preparation of artificial ice surfaces;
-Good knowledge of the principles and users of equipment and material used in janitorial work and able to demonstrate care and skill in the use of equipment and material provided;
-Able to operate a variety of equipment and make minor repairs to same;
-Able to lift and carry heavy objects;
-Able to exhibit courtesy, tact and diplomacy in dealing with the public and be neat and presentable in appearance;
-Able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with Departmental officials, users and other members of staff;
-Able to understand verbal and written instructions in English and complete required forms, logs and reports;
-Able to recognize and rectify and/or report upon actual and potential safety hazards;
-Able to plan, direct and supervise the work of subordinates.
Crane-Safe certification is not a requirement for this position but will benefit.
Salary: $36.71 per hour (2024 rate).
