Job Overview
The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for up to two auxiliary temporary full-time Labourers (from approx. August 26, 2024 to December 20, 2024) to join our team of professionals in the Public Works Division, Utilities Operations Department, Utilities Construction Group. Reporting to the Manager, Utilities Operations, in this unionized position you will perform a variety of manual work requiring physical effort and agility in the unskilled and semi-skilled construction of water and sanitary sewer systems.

Responsibilities
• Perform a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the operation, repair, construction and maintenance of water and sanitary sewer infrastructure
• Assist with vegetation control and minor sanitary sewer system repairs
• Perform confined space entry in hazardous environments for the purpose of maintenance
• Act as a pad-person/spotter for backhoes performing utilities construction operations
• Break blacktop and concrete surfaces using pneumatic hammer and compressor accessories
• Drive a vehicle to transport materials and tools to and from job sites
• Perform other related work as required

Qualifications
• Completion of Grade 12 with some experience in construction and maintenance or an equivalent combination of training and experience
• Sound knowledge of the methods, techniques, materials, tools, and equipment applicable to the various functional areas of utilities construction and maintenance work
• Skill in the use of a variety of tools used in general maintenance and construction work
• Sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to permit the performance of heavy manual outdoor work in all weather conditions
• Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and simple written instructions
• Valid BC Class 3 Driver’s License (full-privilege) with Air Brake Endorsement is considered an asset

Required Certifications/Licenses
