Job Description: The City of Abbotsford’s Innovation, Strategy & Intergovernmental Relations department is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated individual with proven skills and experience working in a fast-paced environment to join our team as a temporary full-time Special Events & Community Coordinator for approximately 9 months. Reporting to the Special Events & Community Manager, this position will work within our Economic Development team.

The Special Events & Community Coordinator ensures that submitted event applications are complete with supporting documents such as insurance, site maps, detailed vendor lists and all necessary plans approved by the City and outside agencies. The position reviews permit applications for general compliance with relevant City bylaws.

As the successful candidate you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing and evaluating City events, ensuring the involvement of related City staff and representatives, volunteers, and contractors. The Coordinator exercises considerable independence and judgement in ensuring adherence to submission requirements.

The ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; good organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workloads and meet deadlines are essential to be successful in this role.

Educational Requirements: As our ideal candidate you will have:

• Degree in Marketing, Promotions, Tourism, Event Planning or other related recognized program plus successful completion of the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) Essentials course;
• Five years’ experience in the field of events; including three years’ experience leading large scale events, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and
• Valid Class 5 BC Drivers Licence.

Salary: This position is unionized, CUPE Local 774, and the hourly rate of pay is from $35.97 to $42.30 per hour. At the City of Abbotsford, we work strongly to create a challenging yet rewarding environment for our employees to thrive.
