Job Description: The City of Chilliwack is looking for an Environmental Services Specialist to join our team in the Engineering Department for a time duration position (12-18 months) starting in September 2024. If you have a keen interest in waste reduction and environmental protection then this job is for you. Reporting to the Manager of Environmental Services, you will assist the Environmental Services team in the successful operation of solid waste and other sustainability programs to achieve the City of Chilliwack’s environmental protection goals. You will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of initiatives, including waste reduction, environmental education, and biodiversity projects.

Skill Requirements:  Graduated from, at a minimum, a two-year Civil or Environmental Engineering Technology program or Environmental Science degree and should have two years’ experience in related municipal or environmental work;
 Possess sound knowledge of recycling, composting and landfilling practices and other environmental sustainability principles;
 Able to research, analyse and interpret a variety of technical data and information;
 Possess good knowledge of national, provincial and municipal laws, bylaws, codes and policies governing environmental matters;
 Able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with contractors, engineers, developers, elected officials, other members of staff and the general public;
 Able to communicate effectively, both orally and in written format, with sound knowledge and ability to prepare and present technical and non-technical reports and all forms of general correspondence;
 Have a high level of computer literacy, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; and
 Be in possession of a valid B.C. Driver's Licence.
Salary: $44.20 per hour (2024 rates)
