We are inviting applications from qualified candidates to fill the time-duration position of Planner I in the Electoral Area Services Division. The term for this full-time position is July 2021 ??? June 2022. Reporting to the Manager of Planning, the Planner I responds to planning enquiries; provides reliable technical analysis and prepares reports; coordinates and facilitates the processing of development applications and permits; interprets and applies legislation, bylaws, regulations and other enactments; assists with drafting bylaws, permits, agreements and other documents; coordinates and attends public information meetings and public hearings; and assists with planning work including OCP updates, long-range planning and policy development. A degree in planning, geography, or a related discipline with courses in survey techniques, GIS, map interpretation, map compilation, graphics and statistical analysis, plus two years of local government experience or equivalent ?? Excellent computer skills, with a high level of proficiency with Microsoft Office including PowerPoint and the ability to acquire a sound knowledge of GIS and electronic filing software ?? Familiarity with all types of maps, air photographs and map catalogues ?? Ability to read and interpret engineering, architectural and site plans and understand specifications ?? Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to express thoughts and ideas clearly, and the ability to converse with a wide range of people including technical consultants, elected officials, staff, the general public, developers, consultants, and First Nations, to provide advice, make recommendations and deliver effective presentations Salary: The start rate for this Union position is $33.68 per hour plus 10.6% in lieu of benefits. Upon successful completion of the required 840 hour probationary period, the wage will increase to $39.62 per hour plus 10.6% in lieu of benefits.
