Job Description: Guided by the City of Surrey???s values, the Surrey Fire Service provides support to the residents, communities, and businesses of Canada???s 12th largest city. We are looking for resilient and adaptable candidates who have goals & values that are aligned with those of the Surrey Fire Service to provide the best emergency response and fire prevention initiatives possible. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who are highly motivated and seeking a challenging and rewarding opportunity as a Paid-on-Call Firefighter.
Duties: Successful candidates will be required to perform a variety of functions including support of fire suppression activities, assisting at medical incidents, fire prevention education, community initiatives and other related duties as required. Paid-on-Call Firefighters will participate in a comprehensive training and orientation program where they will be evaluated and expected to meet minimum performance standards. All Paid-on-Call firefighters are expected to attend the scheduled regular weekly practice night.

All City of Surrey Paid-on-Call Firefighters are required to have and keep a smart phone while employed as a paid-on-call firefighter. Emergency notifications and requests for service are delivered through a mobile phone notification system to their personal mobile phones.
Educational Requirements: Minimum Requirements to Apply:
??? Grade 12 completion or equivalent.
??? Valid Class 3 or Class 1 Driver's License with air brake endorsement or equivalent for vehicles with more than two axles (automatic transmission is accepted) and a safe driving record.
??? Legally entitled to work in Canada (you must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident/Landed Immigrant).
??? Fluency in English (written and verbal).
??? Be physically and medically fit to perform the job of a firefighter according to the standards set in the National Fire Protection Association Standard on Comprehensive Occupational Medical Program for Fire Departments (NFPA 1582).
??? Consent to a Police information check.

Preferred Qualifications:
These additional skills and experiences will enhance your application but do not replace the minimum qualifications:
??? First aid training or EMA First Responder or EMA Emergency Medical Responder licensing.
??? Building construction or trade background.
??? Fire-related courses or work history.
??? NFPA 1001 certification.
??? Daytime availability.
??? Be able to perform duties in a manner that upholds the high degree of public trust that the position holds.
Additional Information: Residency Requirements:
To be hired, candidates must live or work in the Cloverdale or Clayton region of Surrey. Exceptions will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Response locations will be Surrey Fire Hall #8 located at 17572 57th Avenue, Surrey Fire hall #14 at 2016 176th Street and Surrey Fire Hall #15 at 18915 64th Avenue. Practice location will be Surrey Fire Hall #8. If a candidate wishes to use their work address, they will have to provide a letter from their employer certifying that they can respond to calls during regular hours of work.
