The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a regular full-time Manager, Development Planning to join our team of professionals in the Community Development Division.

Reporting to the Director, Development Services, you will join a dynamic multi-disciplinary team of management professionals and lead the Development Planning Department applying your creativity, breadth of planning and development related knowledge and experience in close collaboration with the Development Engineering and Green Infrastructure Services Departments. As an expert in your field, you have an extensive knowledge of best practices in planning, urban design and sustainability. With rapid transit to our Regional City Centre on the horizon, Municipal Town Centres and Frequent Transit Development Areas balanced with rural landscapes, you will shape the sixth largest and fastest growing municipality in Metro Vancouver.

This position directs the processing of all current development applications for the Township of Langley, primarily focusing on official community plan amendment, rezoning, development permit and subdivision applications. You will be responsible for preparing reports to Council in support of community development objectives; ensuring recommendations are consistent with Municipal policies, plans, bylaws and specifications. Leading a talented team of professional / technical staff providing guidance to ensure their success, you will exercise considerable independent judgment, action and initiative. You will develop and administer policies, procedures and priorities as well as develop and administer approved budgets. Interacting closely with applicants, their consultants and staff in other Departments and Divisions you will promote, encourage and provide for the interpretation of broad goals and objectives as outlined in the municipality???s Sustainability Charter for implementation as part of development proposals.

Your qualifications include strong academic credentials with a masters??? degree in planning and a minimum of 7 years related work experience with progressively more responsible project management preferably in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. You have thorough knowledge of applicable legislation, regulations, standards, and have been involved in progressively more responsible and innovative project management positions in a development services environment preferably in both the public and private sectors. Membership or eligibility for full membership in the Planning Institute of British Columbia is required. You have excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills, are well organized, decisive and able to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally. You are a consensus builder, politically astute, fully conversant with the challenges facing a growing Metro Vancouver community and have well-honed report writing skills.

In order to be considered for this position, you must have a BC Class 5 (full-privilege) driver???s license or equivalent driver???s license for where you reside.
