Job Description: Are you passionate about contemporary art and museum art education? Do you enjoy working collaboratively to lead a team to build community through art? Surrey Art Gallery is looking for a Curator of Education and Engagement.

Internationally recognized for its award-winning programs, Surrey Art Gallery is the second largest public art museum in the Metro Vancouver region. Exhibitions change quarterly and admission is always free. We show all forms of contemporary art by local, national, and international artists, including digital and audio art. Our programs include artist talks, tours, and multiple art making and learning opportunities with artists, educators, and other specialists.
Duties: The Curator of Education and Engagement develops and guides programs, as well as leads a team of dedicated art educators who engage children, youth, and adults in lifelong learning through contemporary art. Areas of focus include:
??? Volunteer Programs: learning and education for hundreds of volunteers supporting events, art workshops and camps, school programs (docents), family programs (youth docents), and the Gallery library.
??? Visual Art Programs: registered courses, camps, and workshops with artist-educators and art instructors for children through to seniors.
??? Interpretive Programs: K-12 teacher and school programs and resources that extend the learning of exhibitions through curriculum connections at the Gallery and offsite in classrooms through tours and workshops, specialized tours and workshops for those new to the community and post-secondary groups, and adult discursive events (talks, tours, panels, symposia).
??? Youth and Family Programs: onsite and offsite learning and artmaking initiatives for youth and children with their families and friends with art educators, including supporting diverse learners through sensory friendly spaces and resources.
??? Indigenous Art Education Initiatives: onsite and offsite learning, artmaking, and workshops to enhance learning of contemporary artwork by Indigenous artists in the Gallery and Public Art collections, as well as new pilots.
These programs are invitations to interact with artists and the artistic process and are welcoming forums for shared conversations about issues and ideas important to us.
We???re looking for:
??? A creative leader that informs and articulates the Gallery???s strategic direction, and can guide the planning, implementation, evaluation, and growth of its education and engagement programs.
??? A skilled collaborator who inspires and motivates the Gallery education team, as well as a detail-oriented administrator who can manage budgets, write grants, and supervise staff.
??? An experienced educator and community facilitator who listens effectively, understands the value of conversations, and is
committed to building strong relationships between individuals and organizations.
??? A life-long learner passionate about contemporary art and art museum education, who finds ways to actively share knowledge.
Educational Requirements: ??? A degree from a recognized university program in a related discipline.
??? 3-5 years of progressive experience in the delivery of art education, community engagement, and team management, preferably within an art gallery or art museum context.
