Job Description: It is no secret that the City of Surrey is growing at a rapid rate. With over 1000 new residents a month coming to live in this dynamic city, the opportunities to shape growth and help transform the city into a major transit-oriented, regional urban centre is immense. As a key planning professional, you will lend your expertise to a multidisciplinary team.

Your primary role will be to lead complex secondary land use planning processes. This will involve a collaborative approach and the development of key relationships with staff, stakeholders, and community groups. You will work with a team that develops and implements innovative community engagement techniques and provides clear and effective communication to diverse audiences.
Duties: ??? Effective organizational and project management abilities to lead and coordinate an inter-disciplinary team, manage consultants and facilitate the development of comprehensive secondary land use plans.
??? Interpersonal and customer relationship expertise to successfully engage with stakeholders, community associations, developers, external organizations and the general public.
??? Strong verbal and visual communication skills that allows you to make effective and clear presentations at public open houses, stakeholder meetings, committee meetings, and other public venues.
??? Clear and concise business writing skills to effectively communicate with different audiences that include Corporate Reports and memos for council, as well as communications and plan materials for the general public.
??? A positive, team-oriented outlook that can effectively lead internal staff in a collaborative manner. This includes the ability to integrate multiple ideas and manage competing perspectives to support a thriving team environment.
??? Good foundational knowledge of general planning principles, land use planning processes, legislation and regional frameworks, as well as an understanding of related city plans and policies.
Educational Requirements: ??? Preferably you will have a Master's Degree in Planning and a minimum of three years' experience in community planning. Alternatively, a Bachelor's Degree in Planning or a related discipline with a minimum of five years??? work experience in the planning profession may also be accepted.
??? Experience with Long Range or Community Planning with either a municipality or consulting organization is considered an asset.
??? Membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners is desirable.
??? A valid and unrestricted driver???s license is required.
