Job Description: Do you enjoy research and analysis and are curious about organizational structures and planning processes? Do you enjoy putting ideas into words and can take a data set and turn its facts into a picture? Surrey Art Gallery is offering a paid position for a recent graduate with an undergraduate or graduate degree in art history, museum studies, cultural planning, urban planning, small business management, and/or a related discipline.

Internationally recognized for its award-winning programs, the Gallery is the second largest public art museum in the Metro Vancouver region. Exhibitions change quarterly and admission is always free. We show all forms of contemporary art by local, national, and international artists, including digital and audio art. Our programs include engaging artist talks, tours, and multiple art making and learning opportunities with artists, educators, and other specialists.
Duties: our research will contribute to planning several major initiatives in Surrey, including the future of the Surrey Art Gallery. As you research precedents of best practice models and strategic plans from around the world, you???ll begin the process of unpacking, categorizing, and summarizing the organizational and conceptual bones of institutions and analyzing how they communicate, inspire, and build partnerships. You will contribute to the process of planning cultural facilities that are catalyst learning places for everyone to become knowledgeable and empathetic, and our communities sustainable, tolerant, and resilient.
You???ll work out of the Surrey Arts Centre, home to the Surrey Art Gallery. You???ll be surrounded by creative people and will be mentored by skilled administrators. You???ll be inspired and find your effort and ideas valued!
Educational Requirements: ??? Completion of grade 12 and some post-secondary education from a recognized institution supplemented by 2 years of related experience including supervision.
??? Enjoy working in a dynamic environment and thrives in situations requiring meeting deadlines and adapting to change.
??? Show an interest in and an aptitude for efficient research and thoughtful analysis, skills in writing, organizing information efficiently, and a self-starter.
??? Demonstrate a curiosity about culture and will have excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office and other presentation tools.
??? An Emergency First Aid Certificate and CPR or acceptable equivalent.
Skill Requirements: This position is funded in part through Young Canada Works??? Building Careers in Heritage program, and therefore applicants need to meet specific eligibility requirements, including:
??? Legally entitled to work in Canada.
??? Be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
??? Have completed a certificate or degree program (as defined by their educational institute) within the last two years.
