As part of this strategic direction, our Engineering Department is transitioning to a more customer service and process driven org-structure that incorporates an enhanced alignment of staff functions and duties with the vision for the City and the direction of the Official Community Plan. Within this org-structure we have created four new divisions that will plan, implement, operate, and maintain infrastructure and deliver on our customer service goals.

The Environmental Services Division of the Engineering and Regional Utilities Department provides environmental leadership and develops integrated sustainability strategies and policies that guide the growth of the City in accordance with Council’s Strategic Plan and the City’s updated Official Community Plan. This Division will help guide community programs, policies and infrastructure investments in the City and achieve Council’s vision for the City “…to be the Hub of the Fraser Valley.” This Division will also help to shape the future of the City and is viewed as a builder of community that will attract and retain people to live, work and play in the City of Abbotsford.
We are seeking a key member of our leadership team for the position of Director, Environmental Services. Reporting to the General Manager, Engineering and Regional Utilities, the Director provides leadership, direction, corporate and strategic advice for a broad range of City environmental issues, initiatives, policies and bylaws. As the Director you will: provide strategic and technical advice to City departments on environmental matters, be responsible to advance and report on sustainability and climate change initiatives, develop a corporate energy management and greenhouse gas reduction strategy, investigate contamination spills to watercourses, manage the City’s solid waste and recycling program representing the City on regional solid waste issues, manage the source control program, and be the City’s advocate to promote sustainability and sound environmental stewardship through education.
As the Director, you are a seasoned leader, strategic thinker and problem solver with sound judgement. You have the ability to motivate, mentor, coach, influence a diverse team to create a high performance work environment, and the ability to build consensus on challenging issues and develop partnerships. You have experience as a hands-on senior leader and are comfortable managing many different priorities concurrently, with the ability to move projects forward in a multi-stakeholder environment. Your strong communication and interpersonal skills allow you to build credible and trusted relationships at all levels throughout the organization and the community.
As the Director, you will have:
• a Degree in Engineering, Planning, Environmental Science, Economics, Natural Resource Management, Biology or other related discipline;
• a professional designation as a P.Eng., RPP, RPBio, or other relevant professional association; and
• 10 years of progressive related experience, with a minimum of five (5) years in a senior leadership role.
