RESPONSIBILITIES

The Museum of Surrey is a cultural facility with a mission to ignite young imaginations and connect Surrey???s diverse population and communities through participation, engagement and stories. With this in mind, we are looking for a passionate and people focussed Public Programs Assistant to lead a variety of events, drop-in programs and registered programs.

In this role, typical duties include:
???Assist in the research, organization, preparation, and delivery of programs for children, youths, adults, and seniors.
???Aid in promotion and evaluation of public programs.
???Support summer students, interns and volunteers.
???Program setup and takedown such as the sorting, organizing, and cleanup of program equipment and supplies.
???Preparation of craft or activity templates and samples.
???Assist to train and supervise volunteers in program delivery.
???Deliver outreach, such as offsite programming and events.

We???re looking for someone who is confident with approaching the public and providing engaging opportunities at museum and outreach events. In addition, this person also enjoys working with toddlers and children, and comfortable with delivering structured programs. Strong group management, creative problem solving, excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required when working with different age groups and crowd sizes.

A familiarity with the principles and practices of museum interpretation, program delivery and community development in an educational and community context, is a strong asset.

QUALIFICATIONS

As the successful candidate you must be able to demonstrate your outgoing customer relation skills.
You will have:
???Grade 12 supplemented by some post- secondary education, and supplemented by 2 years of relevant experience in community service work or an equivalent acceptable combination of training and experience.
???Emergency First Aid and CPR Certificate.
???Valid BC driver???s license with a safe driving history and access to a vehicle.
???Heritage and/or cultural programming experience is an asset.
