The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a temporary full-time (from approx. October 1, 2018 to approx. September 27, 2019) Soil Bylaw Officer to join our team of professionals in the Engineering Division, Engineering and Construction Services Department.
Reporting to the Engineering Services Manager, you will be responsible in this unionized position for processing soil deposit and removal applications, producing neighbourhood maps and letter mail-outs, collecting and summarizing responses, recommending improvements to procedures, organizing site inspections and meetings for technical staff, and conducting inspections to ensure that properties conform to the by-law and approved soil permits as well as investigating complaints. You will also compose correspondence, provide data for council reports, and maintain and up-date forms, permits, reports and records.
Your education will include completion of grade 12 schooling related technical courses and sound related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. You will have sound knowledge of computer applications as they relate to the work performed, business English, spelling, punctuation and arithmetic and of modern office methods, practices and procedures, and common office appliances. Ability to investigate complaints, conduct inspections and to enforce the by-law, rules and regulations with firmness, tact, impartiality and sound judgement as well as an ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public, officials and staff is necessary. Having at least 1 year experience in a municipal setting, or at least 1 year experience in bylaw enforcement or related education would be an asset.

The rate of pay for this CUPE position is $29.16 – $34.29 per hour (5 steps, 2018 rates), plus 13% in lieu of benefits. The hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm.
