Job Description: The Accounting Clerk 1 is responsible for routine accounting and clerical work, including, maintaining general ledger accounts, verifying and reconciling payment requests, and accurate disbursement of funds.
Duties: Reconcile petty cash and cash advance funds.
Release damage deposits.
Process refund requests.
Generate invoices and collect payments.
Reconcile and adjust sub ledger accounts and prepare year-end working papers.
Communicate frequently with other City departments and external parties to provide assistance and answer general enquiries.
Other job duties may be assigned according to operational requirements.
Educational Requirements: Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by a minimum of one accounting course equivalent to a current introductory course at a college, technical institute, or professional accounting designation program.
Skill Requirements: A minimum of two (2) years of recent clerical and/or accounting experience is required.
Effective communication skills both verbally and in writing.
Good computer and calculator skills.
Basic knowledge of accounting including journals, ledgers, trial balance and accounting transactions.
Good working knowledge of financial software and PC applications, including Excel and Word.
Quick, accurate mathematical calculations.
Ability to meet deadlines.
