The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a temporary full-time (from approx. June 4, 2018 to approx. May 31, 2019) Environmental Coordinator II to join our team of professionals in the Engineering Division, Water Resources and Environment Department.

Reporting to the Manager, Water Resources and Environment, you will be responsible in this unionized position for environmental protection and monitoring, related to municipal works projects; development and implementation of adaptive management strategies; formulating draft environmental objectives and policy; designing, implementing and evaluating environmental programs; as well as performing site inspections, ensuring compliance with environmental requirements for capital works projects, approved development applications, and construction plans; and provide technical expertise, advice, and guidance on environmental matters, including regulatory and other requirements of senior governments. You will also be responsible for preparation and development of project information and plans for environmental regulatory agencies, interest groups, and Township staff; and coordination of community engagement activities designed to raise awareness and impact behavioural change. You will develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with community stewardship groups, nonprofit agencies, other municipalities, government agencies, developers, and other stakeholders.

Your education will include an undergraduate or post graduate degree in environmental science, sustainability, or a related discipline. Registration or eligibility for registration in a professional association related to the work, plus some professional experience in environmental management, or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required. Experience within a municipal government setting and demonstrated project management skill is an asset. You will have strong interpersonal skills, be energetic, enthusiastic, well organized and able to communicate effectively with the public and a variety of stakeholders. This position requires considerable independence of judgement and action combined with solid education and experience from a technical and scientific perspective. Extensive computer familiarity is required with proficiency in visual presentations, word processing, and spreadsheets.

In order to be considered for this position, candidates must have a BC Class 5 (full-privilege) driver???s license or equivalent driver???s license for where you reside. The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $42.20 - $49.85 per hour (5 steps, 2018 rates), plus 13% in lieu of benefits. The hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:30am ??? 4:30pm. Some evening / weekend work may be required.
