As part of this strategic direction, our Engineering Department is transitioning to a more customer service and process driven org-structure that incorporates an enhanced alignment of staff functions and duties with the vision for the City and the direction of the Official Community Plan. Within this org-structure we have created four new divisions that will plan, implement, operate, and maintain infrastructure and deliver on our customer service goals.

The Utility Operations Division of the Engineering and Regional Utilities Department provides leadership in the construction, operations and maintenance of the City’s water, sewer, and storm drainage areas and Regional Utilities services (water and sewer treatment) in accordance with Council’s Strategic Plan and the City’s newly updated Official Community Plan and best management practices. This Division will help guide the infrastructure investments in the City and achieve Council’s vision for the City “…to be the Hub of the Fraser Valley.” This Division will also help shape the future of the City and is viewed as a builder of community that will attract and retain people to live, work and play in the City of Abbotsford.
We are seeking a key member of the department’s Senior Leadership team for the position of Director, Utility Operations. Reporting to the General Manager, Engineering & Regional Utilities, the Director provides leadership and strategic direction to a diverse team engaged in a variety of utility operations, works diligently to meet and/or exceed provincial and federal regulatory requirements, looks for efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of services, and holds safety paramount in all decision and actions.
As the Director, you are a seasoned leader, strategic thinker and problem solver with sound judgement. You have the ability to motivate, mentor, coach and influence a diverse team to create a high performance work environment. You have experience as a hands-on senior leader and are comfortable managing many different priorities concurrently, with the ability to move projects forward in a multi-stakeholder environment. Your strong communication and interpersonal skills allow you to build credible and trusted relationships at all levels throughout the organization.
As the Director, you will have:
• a Diploma in Technology or Business Management, or a Degree in Engineering or other related discipline;
• a Professional designation as an AScT or P.Eng or otherwise in BC; and
• 10 years of progressive related experience with a minimum of five years in a senior leadership role.
