Job Description: Employees in this position perform a variety of functions related to the safety, security and monitoring of prisoners at the RCMP Detachment. They are responsible to: guard prisoners; perform required basic tasks including booking prisoners in and out on the computer system, storing prisoner personal effects, recording of all prisoner activities in cell block, forwarding and recording telephone calls for prisoners from legal counsel, stamping files, preparing departmental mail outs including false alarms, entering data for false alarms, and maintaining a video tape library of prisoners in cell block; assisting exhibit personnel with basic tasks; provide meals to prisoners; clean cells and guard room area; and prioritize assigned work to coincide with departmental priorities and schedules.
Duties: Guard prisoners and perform functions related to the safety, security and monitoring of prisoners at the RCMP Detachment

Book prisoners in and out on the computer system

Assist with fingerprinting and photographing prisoners

Create files and input, modify and remove file data related to the custody of prisoners in various RCMP computer systems and programs

Handle, store and log prisoner personal effects

Record all prisoner activities in cellblock and maintain a videotape library of prisoners in cellblock

Provide meals to prisoners; clean cells and guardroom area

Check prisoners on a frequent basis

Monitor first aid and food supplies for cellblock

Assist with incoming and outgoing calls from legal counsel to prisoners.

Performing a variety of basic clerical tasks such as stamping files, preparing mail outs, stuffing envelopes, entering data for false alarms and printing and faxing related documents


Assist exhibits personnel with basic tasks

Operate a variety of office equipment related to the performance of duties.

Provide training for new staff in related functions

Provide information related to the performance assessment of new staff

Participate in the development and implementation of new policies and procedures

As required, assist to perform basic tasks of other staff in the department
Educational Requirements: High School graduation or equivalent

Minimum of six months working in a related service environment

Occupational First Aid Level 1
Skill Requirements: Demonstrable basic word processing and data entry skills

Ability to respond to a variety of difficult circumstances in a sensitive manner

Ability to obtain and maintain the designated RCMP security clearance

Ability to maintain first aid certification

Ability to be courteous and tactful in a variety of demanding and difficult situations

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts and to communicate tactfully and effectively, both verbally and in writing
Salary: $29.62 plus 4.4% in lieu of all benefits (2018 rate)
Additional Information: Candidates must currently possess or have the ability to obtain and maintain the designated RCMP security clearance. Preference will be given to applicants with current RCMP security clearance.
