The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for an auxiliary (from approx. January 1, 2018 to approx. August 30, 2018) Recreation Leader to join our team of professionals in the Arts, Culture and Community Initiatives Division; Cultural Programs and Services Department.

Reporting to the Arts and Culture Programmer, you will be responsible in this unionized position for assisting a supervisor in planning, developing, and scheduling specific recreation programs, services and special events; directing the implementation of program activities; providing leadership and instruction; assessing program results and recommending changes as necessary. You will also be responsible for assigning and supervising the work of auxiliary staff, providing orientation and training, and participating in the selection and evaluation of staff. This position may be of particular interest to individuals with Metis, Inuit or First Nations descent. High Five Certification, and Fundamental Movement Skills Certification are considered assets.

Your education will include completion of a two-year program in Recreation at a recognized Community College and two years of experience working in an Aboriginal support setting or the equivalent combination of training and experience. Knowledge of the recreational needs and interests of the area served, and sound knowledge of the principles, practices, and objectives of community recreation programs is necessary. The successful candidate must have Aboriginal cultural agility and demonstrate appropriate behavioral competencies. Emergency First Aid and CPR Certification must be obtained within 2 months of hire.

This position is defined by the Township of Langley as a position of trust (Child Safety). The successful candidate(s) will be required to have a police information check as a condition of employment (Note - Not required as part of the application process, however will be required upon consideration for employment).

The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $25.84 - $30.37 per hour (5 steps, 2018 rates), plus 13% in lieu of benefits. The hours of work are non-standard hours and/or non-standard work week.
