The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a Recreation Programmer ??? Aquatics to join our team of professionals in the Parks and Recreation Division; Recreation Programs and Services Department.

Reporting to the Community Recreation Manager, you will be responsible in this unionized position for coordinating the planning, organization, implementation and promotion of a wide variety of programs; conducting in-service training of staff to ensure an understanding of life support systems and techniques and Divisional policies and procedures; assist in administering and conducting a custodial program by ensuring that water quality, temperature and volume is maintained and that established standards of cleanliness and safety are enforced. You will also assist in preparing program budgets for review and approval, monitoring approved budget expenditures, compiling program statistics and preparing reports and correspondence as required; as well as in the recruitment and hiring of program staff; ensuring for the proper orientation, training and on-the job coaching of staff; and monitoring the performance of contract workers, including their program effectiveness, participation rates and their conformance to contract specifications.

Your education will include University graduation in recreation or a related discipline or completion of a Diploma program in community recreation or a related discipline at a recognized institution supplemented by courses in lifesaving, aquatic instruction and pool operation including several years??? experience in the area of assignment and a minimum of two years of aquatic related supervisory experience. The successful candidate will have sound knowledge of the principles, philosophy, objectives and administration of recreation programs and events with a particular emphasis in aquatic lifeguarding and program instruction areas; sound knowledge of programming requirements, standards and leadership methods and teaching techniques pertaining to aquatics, physical fitness and special needs; as well as a working knowledge of pool chemistry, water filtration, chlorinating, ozone purification, heating and related pool equipment and operating procedures and maintenance requirements of such equipment.

This position is defined by the Township of Langley as a position of trust (Child Safety). The successful candidate(s) will be required to have a police information check as a condition of employment (Note - Not required as part of the application process, however will be required upon consideration for employment).

The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $29.77 - $35.04 per hour (5 steps, 2017 rates); [$30.37 - $35.74 per hour (5 steps, 2018 rates)] plus benefits. The hours of work are Tuesday to Saturday 8:00am ??? 5:00pm; non-standard hours and/or non-standard work week.
