Job Description: Employees in this position are responsible for coordinating a variety of programming tasks for youth. Under the direction of the Program Coordinator, they are responsible for assisting in the planning, delivery, coordination, marketing, budgeting and evaluation of youth activities and supervising, coordinating and scheduling youth engagement workers. They will work from a trauma informed, psycho social, relationship centered, strength based approach in all interactions with youth.
Duties: Assist the supervisor in the planning, delivery, coordination, marketing and evaluation of the youth activities with the primary focus being the Youth Lounge and Skate Park.
Take a leadership role in the coordination and execution of activities and events that provide meaningful opportunities for youth to develop life skills and leadership potential including Youth Week and the Youth Mentorship Program.
Responsible for the day to day operation of the Youth Lounge in accordance with the established policies and procedures.
Ensure the safety and well-being of youth in and around the Leisure Centre.
Resolve youth issues in accordance with the established procedures and work with the Program Coordinator on difficult or unusual situations.
Communicate and work cooperatively with youth, youth engagement staff, community agencies and parents.
Under the direction of the supervisor, supervise, schedule and coordinate work of the Youth Engagement Workers.
Assist supervisor in recruitment of Youth Engagement Workers and ensure criminal record checks are completed.
Assist to arrange and/or participate in the training and development of Youth Engagement Workers.
In conjunction with the supervisor, provide verbal and/or written performance feedback and performance assessments of Youth Engagement Workers.
Monitor and assess work performed to ensure that it meets a high standard of quality, efficiency and customer service, and is performed in compliance with appropriate safety regulations.
Ensures the required standards of behavior and safety are maintained by youth participants.
Participate in the development and implementation of new policies, procedures, and work methodology.
Maintain a variety of records and statistics.
Review Youth Engagement time sheets and forward to supervisor for approval.
Assist supervisor with preparing and monitoring the budget for the program.
Educational Requirements: A minimum of Grade 12 and completion of a Certificate in Child and Youth Care or related field, supplemented by a supervisory course.

Minimum of three years??? experience working directly with youth, including youth facing many social and environmental barriers to success, combined with experience in program planning, administration, supervision and training of staff; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Skill Requirements: Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, such as the Child, Family and Community Service Act, including the duty to report regulations.
A working knowledge of social and recreation issues impacting today???s youth, along with the principles, methods and best practices for working with youth.
Ability to deal with a wide variety of sensitive youth issues including crisis situations, substance abuse, LGBTQ2S issues and the ability to refer young people to community programs and services.
Proven sound judgement, ethical decision making and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
Ability to organize and prioritize workload in a relatively unstructured environment.
Ability to assign, check, supervise, mentor and evaluate work of Youth Engagement Workers.
Ability to prepare and maintain records related to the position.
Ability to obtain and maintain a criminal record clearance.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Demonstrated skill in establishing and maintaining respectful relationships and effective partnerships with internal and external customers and to communicate tactfully and effectively.
Demonstrated skill in building respectful relationships and effective partnerships with disengaged youth.
Basic word processing and data entry skills.
Salary: $31.18 per hour plus a comprehensive benefit package.
Additional Information: The Recreation Leader will be required to work Tuesday through Saturday, with a combination of day, afternoon and evening shifts, and some statutory holidays.
