Job Description: Employees in this position assist and provide relief for a variety of accounting functions by following prescribed policies and procedures, applying generally accepted accounting principles/ guidelines, and best practices.
Duties: Reconcile a variety of general ledger and sub-ledger accounts.
As required assist with preparing, reconciling, reviewing and processing data for cash receipting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, utility billings, property taxes, budget, year-end, payroll and other finance related functions.
Assist with the preparation of year-end working papers.
Prepare and maintain a variety of complex tables, spreadsheets and financial reports.
Complete bank transactions/entries and reconciliation.
As required, assist with a variety of property tax tasks including: annual tax sale; processing property tax notices, home owner grants, tax deferments and refunds; reconciling tax accounts; calculating property taxes, penalties and interest; and other related functions.
As required assist Accounting Clerk General with processing utility billings, accounts receivable billings and administration, payroll and other related functions
Participate in the development, implementation of policies and procedures and monitoring compliance with policies and procedures of a financial nature.
As required assist with tasks related to the annual budget.
As required, prepare correspondence.
As required, provide assistance to cash receipting, accounts receivable, utility billings, property tax records and accounts payable functions.
Assisting with other accounting/finance functions including financial statements, annual reports and budgets.
Provide information and assistance to internal and external customers.
Provide information related to the performance assessment of new staff in the Finance Department.
As required, provide training related to functions performed.
Perform other related duties.
Educational Requirements: High School graduation or equivalent, supplemented by completion of a recognized Diploma in an Accounting discipline.
Skill Requirements: Considerable ability to maintain sustained attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
Considerable knowledge and experience with computerized financial software systems, complex spreadsheets, and word processing.
Considerable knowledge and experience with generally accepted accounting principles including Public Sector Accounting and Auditing Board???s (PSAB) guidelines and recommendations.
Knowledge of fund accounting.
Ability to prepare, verify and analyze a variety of financial and statistical reports and data.
Ability to prioritize and balance a variety of assigned tasks and complex procedures to meet required deadlines.
Ability to be courteous and tactful in a variety of demanding and difficult situations.
Salary: $32.09 per hour plus 4.4% in lieu of benefits
Additional Information: A minimum of three years financial/accounting experience including some experience in accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, subsidiary ledgers, working papers, and account reconciliation and analysis up to and including trial balance; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
