The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a regular full-time Arena Service Worker to join our team of professionals in the Recreation, Culture, and Parks Division; Recreation Facilities and Programs Department.

Reporting to the Community Recreation Manager, you will be responsible in this unionized position for performing janitorial and custodial duties, operating refrigeration, ice-making and related equipment and performing daily routine inspections of the equipment, ensuring requirements and qualities of ice are maintained. You will also perform routine repairs and minor maintenance to ice resurfacing and edging equipment; as well as performing a variety of semi-skilled building and equipment maintenance duties and minor repair work such as painting, plumbing, electrical repairs and simple carpentry.

Your education will include completion of Grade 12 supplemented by related technical training; sound experience in the operation and maintenance of ice and building equipment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. You will have considerable knowledge of materials, methods and equipment used in janitorial and custodial work; and of the operating principles and procedures of water heating, boiler, ice making and ice resurfacing equipment, and the methods, practices and materials used in the operation of arena facilities; as well as knowledge of plumbing and electrical systems applicable to the operation of arena facilities. You will have the ability to give guidance and instruction to part-time staff and new employees as well as to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, patrons and user groups, and to deal tactfully and firmly with same in ensuring observance of rules and regulations. A 5th Class Power Engineer Certificate or higher is considered an asset.

This position is defined by the Township of Langley as a position of trust (Child Safety). The successful candidate(s) will be required to have a criminal record check as a condition of employment (Note - Not required as part of the application process, however will be required upon consideration for employment).

The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $23.61 - $27.75 per hour (5 steps 2015 rates), plus benefits. The hours of work are Sunday to Thursday 7:00am ??? 3:00pm; non-standard hours and/or non-standard work week.
