The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a regular full-time Clerk Typist IV to join our team of professionals in the Parks and Recreation Division, Administration Department.

Reporting to the Director, Parks and Recreation, you will be responsible in this unionized position for acting as a confidential administrative assistant to a senior supervisor, performing work leadership responsibilities, assigning and checking the work of other clerical staff and assisting with the compilation and maintenance of the departmental budget. You will maintain frequent contacts for a superior with public and private executives, professional persons and other officials. Superior interpersonal and customer service skills are imperative in this role. You will also provide a wide variety of divisional information to private and public enquiries and arrange appointments and meetings; prepare agendas, take minutes and prepare reports. You will be responsible for maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of divisional work in progress, and for researching, accumulating and indexing a wide variety of information.

Your education will include completion of Grade 12 including or supplemented by courses in stenography, typing and standard commercial subjects, plus considerable experience as a Clerk-Typist III, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. You will have thorough knowledge of division rules, regulations, procedures and functions, business English, modern office practices and procedures, and some knowledge of bookkeeping terminology and practice. You will also have the ability to establish priorities and schedule workloads to meet deadlines, have the ability to deal tactfully with municipal personnel and the public as well as have a typing speed of at least 55wpm. A BC Class 5 (full-privilege) driver’s license or equivalent for where you reside is considered an asset. Other beneficial expertise would include database management, report production, research and web skills.

This position is defined by the Township of Langley as positions of trust (Child Safety) and requires a criminal record check.

The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $25.61 - $30.09 per hour (5 steps, 2015 rates), plus benefits. The hours of work are Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm with occasional evening and weekend work required.
