||Public Works Fleet Division
||Employees in this journeyman position perform tasks related to the maintenance and repair of automotive, fire apparatus, commercial transport and heavy duty equipment, including fire trucks, back hoes, excavators, loaders, dump trucks, automobiles, mowers, generators, forestry logging equipment and fabrications.
||Maintain, overhaul and repair a variety of municipal vehicles and equipment including back hoes, excavators, loaders, dump trucks, automobiles, mowers, forestry and logging equipment, and apparatus such as pumps, motors, gas engines and aerial equipment.
Maintain and repair fire trucks and apparatus (includes a 30 meter aerial platform unit) including testing, diagnosis and adjustments of pumps, valves, electrical, instrumentation and hydraulic systems.
Perform inspection, maintenance and repairs of vehicles to ensure compliance with the National Safety Code, the National Fire Protection Association Regulations and the BC Motor Vehicle Act.
Service and maintain various air cooled engines as well as a variety of shop tools and equipment.
Design, troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems.
Use various diagnostic tools.
Fabricate, cut and weld.
Produce and maintain a variety of related records in manual and electronic format.
Research relevant information on the computer.
Develop and maintain daily work records related to the work.
Operate a variety of related equipment and vehicles in the shop and in the field for testing and diagnostic purposes.
Ability to perform field repairs, with mobile shop truck, as required.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge regarding all aspects of fleet maintenance and improved technologies.
||High school graduation or equivalent supplemented by technical courses related to the position.
Certified journeyman mechanic for B.C. or inter-provincial TQ in either automotive, heavy duty or commercial transport.
Commercial Vehicle Inspection licence.
Valid Class 3 Driver’s Licence with air endorsement for the Province of British Columbia.
Level 1 Occupational First Aid
||Minimum of 1 year’s experience.
Knowledge in the safe handling and repair of various tires.
Knowledge of electronic systems.
Ability to use current diagnostic equipment.
Ability to fabricate, cut and weld and to machine custom parts as required.
Ability to operate shop tools and equipment.
Demonstrable basic skill in operating a variety of current computer applications including a windows type environment, word processing, spreadsheets, and other applicable municipal applications.
||$37.99 per hour plus a comprehensive benefit package.
||The hours of work for this position are 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Wednesday to Saturday.
