The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a regular part-time Exhibit Custodian to join our team of professionals in the Protective Services - RCMP Division; Records Section.

Reporting to the Records Coordinator, you will be responsible in this unionized position for receiving, verifying, controlling, storing and ensuring the security, movement and proper handling of criminal and drug exhibits and seized and found property items; liaising with police officers and other agencies on the identification, handling and transfer or disposition of exhibits and seized and found property items; preparing and maintaining files, records, ledgers and reports; and returning, upon identification, recovered stolen property to appropriate parties or releases for public auction as directed. You will also assist in the destruction of drugs, firearms, liquor and dangerous exhibits; provide specific information related to the work to the public and staff on behalf of police officers; and provide evidence in court to confirm continuity of exhibits as well as operate a forklift as required.

Your education will include completion of the grade 12, plus sound related experience and, preferably, some courses related to the work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The successful candidate will have sound knowledge of the methods, procedures and legal requirements used processing and disposition of exhibits and property; of departmental policies, practices and procedures; record-keeping, and computer operation; as well as the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, the general public and various other internal and external contacts in supplying information and assistance.

RCMP reliability status is required. (Note - Not required as part of the application process, however will be required upon consideration for employment).

The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $25.61 - $30.09 per hour (5 steps, 2015 rates). The hours of work are Tuesday to Thursday 7:00am ??? 3:00pm; non-standard hours and/or non-standard work week.
