The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a regular full-time Planner II to join our team of professionals in the Community Development Division; Long Range Planning Department.

Reporting to the Manager, Long Range Planning, you will be responsible in this unionized position for a wide variety of long-range planning projects. You will liaise with other departments, citizens' groups and standing committees; as well as prepare reports, recommendations and policy proposals for submission to superiors, Council and various committees. You will prepare plans, policies, and bylaws to address the changing needs of the municipality; maintain liaison with various internal and external contacts concerned with land development, design guidelines and general planning issues. You will also answer inquiries and provide information to other departments and the public regarding planning, land use or related matters; and supervise the work of technical and/or professional staff and direct the work of consultants engaged in a variety of planning projects.

Your education will include university graduation in an appropriate discipline, plus a post graduate degree in Community and Regional Planning, plus professional work experience in planning; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The successful candidate will have thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and objectives of urban and rural planning; and considerable knowledge of the trends, policies, rules, regulations, bylaws, and legislation governing planning operations. Considerable knowledge and expertise in land development economics, urban design, provincial farm standards and community engagement techniques would be a definite asset; and strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, along with proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets and visual presentations are essential in this role.

The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $43.62 - $51.64 per hour (5 steps 2015 rates), plus benefits. The hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:30am ??? 4:30pm.
