The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for two regular full-time Telecommunications Operators II to join our team of professionals in the Protective Services - RCMP Division, Telecommunications Section.

Reporting to the Telecommunications Supervisor, the successful candidates will be responsible in this unionized position for receiving requests for police services; determining the nature and priority of each request and whether attendance by a unit is required, and what types; assigning unit(s) to attend as appropriate according to the area where service is required, the priority of the call and the number and type of units available; providing situation data; and handling high priority calls as required. You will be eliciting details on the incident/complaint from the caller and completing the appropriate report and entering complaint details in the PRIME system. You will also be accessing C.P.I.C. using the PRIME system; inquiring about the status of a vehicle license plate or other matter related to a report.

Your education will include grade 12 supplemented by standard commercial subjects and courses in computer keyboard operation. Completion of a training program designated by the detachment and some related experience, preferably in the law enforcement or public safety communications area, including some experience as a Telecommunications Operator; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Skill in the operation of radio, telephone, PRIME, and related equipment requiring dual monitor multi mode communication is essential. The ability to operate various police and standard office systems with speed and accuracy, including PRIME, PoliceCAD, and C.P.I.C. is important. Working knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada, the Motor Vehicle Act, and other appropriate by-laws and regulations are necessary.

RCMP reliability status is required. (Note - Not required as part of the application process, however will be required upon consideration for employment).

The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $27.75 - $32.63 per hour (5 steps; 2015 rates) plus benefits. The hours of work are four days on/four days off (2 days and 2 nights) 7:00am ??? 7:00pm; 7:00pm ??? 7:00am; non-standard hours and/or non-standard work weeks.
