The Township of Langley is currently for up to 5 auxiliary Recreation Worker V – Senior Lifeguard/Instructors to join our team of professionals in the Parks and Recreation Division; Recreation Programs and Services Department for our various recreation facilities. The focus of the position is to perform lifeguarding and instructional duties, and to assist with supervision and coordination of part-time aquatic staff.
Reporting to the Community Recreation Manager, successful candidates for this unionized position must have some supervisory and/or leadership training and 2 years equivalent full time related aquatic experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Other desirable qualifications or related courses are:
• Pool Operator’s 1 and 2
• Lifesaving Instructor
• WSI Instructor Trainer
• NL Instructor
• Aquatic Supervisor Training preferred
• Valid Class 5 (full-privilege) BC Driver's License
Candidates will be required to attend a general meeting on Thursday, August 17, 1:30 – 4:30pm at Walnut Grove Community Centre, as well as undergo a mandatory practical/physical assessment of skills on Tuesday, August 22, 1:00 – 6:00pm at Walnut Grove Community Centre.
Candidates unable to make August 22 will not be considered.
This position is defined by the Township of Langley as a position of trust (Child Safety). The successful candidate(s) will be required to have a criminal record check as a condition of employment (Note - Not required as part of the application process, however will be required upon consideration for employment).
In order to be considered for this position, candidates must have the following valid and current certifications / licenses (must be valid at the time the posting closes) and these must be attached with your application. • Completion of Grade 12
• AED Certification (Automated External Defibrillator)
• Red Cross Water Safety Instructor
• National Lifeguard Certificate (Pool and Water park Options)
• Standard First-Aid Certificate
• Occupational First Aid (OFA) Level 1 Certification or WorkSafe equivalent
• CPR Level ‘C’ Certificate
The rate of pay for this CUPE position is $22.72 - $26.63 per hour (5 steps, 2015 rates), plus 12.4% in lieu of all other benefits. The hours of work are various including evenings and weekends.
