The Township of Langley is currently recruiting up to 15 auxiliary Recreation Workers III ??? General Instructors to join our team of professionals in the Parks and Recreation; and Arts, Culture and Community Initiatives Divisions.

Reporting to the Community Recreation Manager, the successful candidates will be responsible in these unionized positions for leading or assisting with afterschool programs and various other recreation based programs in the Walnut Grove, Murrayville, Willoughby, and Aldergrove communities. The focus of these programs will be on physical activity, physical literacy, and promoting healthy lifestyles. Our goal is to encourage children to be active through a variety of traditional and non-traditional recreation based activities that include both structured and unstructured play opportunities. We are looking for individuals that are passionate for community recreation and its ability to build individuals and communities to be active and healthy for life.


Recreation Worker III

Successful candidates will have the ability to provide leadership for a variety of recreation programs and activities, lead Recreation Workers II and I; observe, and supervise participants; liaise with parents, and plan various recreation programs for children between the ages of 5 and 12. The rate of pay for this CUPE position is $20.21 - $23.61 per hour (5 steps, 2015 rates), plus 12.4% in lieu of benefits. The hours of work are typically 2:00 ??? 5:30pm; and/or various additional auxiliary hours; non-standard hours and/ or non-standard work week.

Applicants not successful for Recreation Worker III may be considered for the following:

Recreation Worker II - successful candidates will have the ability to assist leaders with a variety of recreation programs and activities. The rate of pay for this CUPE position is $18.70 - $21.87 per hour (5 steps, 2015 rates), plus 12.4% in lieu of benefits.

Recreation Worker I ??? successful candidates will have the ability to assist leaders and assistants with a variety of recreation programs and activities. The rate of pay for this CUPE position is $17.98 - $20.98 per hour (5 steps, 2015 rates) plus 12.4% in lieu of benefits.



All positions require completion of Grade 10, and experience working with the public - preferably in a recreation environment. Certification in HIGH FIVE (Principles of Healthy Childhood Development); FMS (Fundamental Movement Skills), NCCP (National Coaching Certification Program) are considered assets. A minimum of 1 year program leadership experience, Food Safe Certification, and a Class 4 full-privilege BC driver???s license are preferred. Employment is dependent upon registration.

These positions are defined by the Township of Langley as a position of trust (Child Safety). The successful candidates will be required to have a criminal record check as a condition of employment (Note - Not required as part of the application process, however will be required upon consideration for employment).
