Our Finance and Corporate Services Department is currently seeking an experienced and self-motivated Accounts Payable Clerk to join their busy team. Reporting to the Manager, Financial Systems & Disbursements, you will perform diverse and moderately complex clerical work verifying, updating and maintaining accounts payable records.
In this busy role you will check invoices, update and maintain computerized accounts payable records, research records for possible double payment and price adjustments, carry out billing adjustments, credits and reversals, and prepare the payment runs as required. Additional responsibilities include investigating and verifying outstanding invoices, reviewing a variety of forms for accuracy and completeness and preparing reconciliations and year-end working papers. You will utilize your excellent interpersonal and customer service skills while you assist customers and staff seeking information; explaining departmental policies, rules and regulations and applying applicable legislation. Excellent analytical, creative and problem-solving skills are essential in this position as well as good working knowledge of computer systems and operations related to accounts payable systems and internal controls.
Your proven skills, knowledge and abilities as an Accounts Payable professional, along with your considerable knowledge of accounts payable practices, principles, procedures, policies and regulations, including commodity tax legislation will make you an asset to the team. Excellent attention to detail, communication and writing skills will be essential in this position, as will your ability to foster and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders. Your ability to work independently, multi-task and take initiative will guide your success in this position.
To be considered for this position you will have:
• Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by business accounting and computer courses.
• A minimum two years’ experience working with computerized accounts payable systems in a large government environment, preferably public sector.
This position is unionized, C.U.P.E Local 774, and the hourly rate of pay is from $23.61 to $27.75 per hour (2015 rates).
