Job Description: This is inspectional, regulatory, and investigative work related primarily to the enforcement of parking regulations and policies. The work involves extensive public relations contact which requires the exercise of independent judgement, action, tact, and diplomacy. Employees in this position are responsible for performing a range of duties relating to inspections and enforcement of traffic bylaws and policies. While the work is of a routine and repetitive nature and is performed in accordance with bylaws and regulations, the incumbent is required to professionally address conflict, exercise discretion in taking enforcement action, and using sound judgement in performing the work
Duties: Performing patrols and enforcing parking related bylaws on assigned City streets, lanes and parking lots to ensure vehicles are parked in compliance with municipal bylaws.

Interpreting bylaws, regulations and applicable statutes to the public.

Investigating public complaints regarding illegally parked vehicles, providing exceptional customer service and preparing reports.

Issuing warnings, informations, and bylaw violation notices; arranging for the removal of unlawfully parked vehicles.

Investigating parking violations, and chalk tires where parking signs stipulate parking restrictions are subject to regulation.

Contacting towing companies for the removal of illegally parked vehicles on municipal streets and in parks.

Responding to calls or inquiries and investigating complaints regarding parking infractions and violations related to secondary suites.

Communicating with bylaw enforcement officers in operational and emergency situations for assistance in enforcing bylaws.

Maintaining an officer???s notebook; and preparing and maintaining records related to the work.

Preparing correspondence to residents and others to address parking-related issues.

May be required to appear in court as a witness in connection with traffic violations issued
Educational Requirements: Completion of secondary school or equivalent along with Bylaw Compliance, Enforcement and Investigative Skills Level 1 and 2 through the Justice Institute, or equivalent.
Skill Requirements: Knowledge of relevant municipal by-laws and regulations related to parking.

Knowledge of the geography and street locations in the municipality.

Knowledge of the principles, procedures and practices involved in bylaw enforcement.

Ability to interpret and enforce relevant municipal by-laws, regulations and procedures with tact, firmness, impartiality and sound judgment.

Ability to prepare professional reports and correspondence related to the work.

Ability to investigate and document information relative to by-law infractions, and provide credible evidence in Court.

Ability to establish and maintain good public relations through exercising knowledge, diplomacy and persuasion when dealing with the general public, businesses and other government agencies.

Ability to walk long distances and work outside in varying weather conditions.
Salary: $27.70 per hour plus 4% in lieu of benefits
Additional Information: This position requires the flexibility to work evenings and weekends. The hours of work will vary based on operational need. You will have a valid Class 5 driver???s licence and a clean Criminal Record.
