Job Description: |
City of Surrey???s Community and Recreation Services Division provides exciting opportunities and challenges in an active and energetic environment and is looking for enthusiastic Early Childhood Educators within our Community Recreation Centres. These positions are best suited to creative, self-motivated individuals who enjoy working with people in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The City of Surrey follows a responsive curriculum and is committed to ensuring that every child in our programs has a positive and safe recreation experience. Excellent customer service, communication, problem solving and organizational skills are required.
ECE staff will be responsible for the design and implementation of programs for Early Years. ECE Programs are both licensed and non-licensed, and are offered in a variety of facilities including recreation centres, schools, community halls and parks. These positions involve working with parents and caregivers together with their children with the purpose of providing a language rich environment that fosters a creative, enriched, play based learning environment. |

Duties: |
The Early Childhood Education Assistant will be responsible for assisting in setting up and maintaining an organized, stimulating play environment that encourages the development of self-esteem, oral language, creative problem solving, collaboration, social interaction, social responsibility, intercultural understanding, emergent literacy and numeracy, as well as providing parent support, connection with schools, families and sharing community resources. This will require developing activities that are important to the various stages of child development, including, art, literacy, fine/gross motor skills, constructive play, and using observation and documentation to create a successful program. |

Educational Requirements: |
The successful candidate will have a valid License to Practice ??? ECE Assistant (ECEA) with preferably 1 year related work experience; Candidates must also have: basic computer skills, a current first aid certificate and will be required to go through a criminal record search. Demonstrates ongoing professional development training related to Early Years best practices and responsive philosophy. |

Skill Requirements: |
Demonstrated experience working with children in the 0-5 age range. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required as is the ability to be culturally sensitive, creative, collaborative, resourceful and knowledgeable of community services in Surrey. |
